FAQ - Installation standards for various devices

Stoves and their hoods (propane)

Installation standards for clearance between the stove and cumbustable material are:

  • Between the area above the stove and the combustible material: 76.20 cm or 30 inches.
  • Between the kitchen and the lateral combustible wall: 15.24 cm or 6 inches
Considering that 30 inches is required between the base of the cupboard and the top of the stove, the good should be installed under the cupboards.

There are no standards according to the Régie du Bâtiment code regarding ventilation hoods, so you must comply with the required by the installation manual. However, installation manuals may include recommendations that should take precedence over Régie du Bâtiment codes.
